ChatGPT is a Plague Upon Online Publications

I’ve noticed a lot of blogs popping up by unknown authors with utter nonsense confidently listed within them. This will both hasten the demise of the search engines (which are already pretty horrible) due to all the garbage they will now index. But it would mean that developers searching for answers will now get a barrage of misinformation that’s usually very similar to one another.

This is effectively killing the idea of free information by drowning it with garbage.

Obvious, simple answers will always work. But the internet was great for answering complex, niche questions. ChatGPT is REALLY bad at this… 

I think this might have a good side-effect. We will be forced to go back to authoritative authors for information and support groups. This will provide good answers and authors will benefit in the longrun. But it will be a dark tunnel before we get there.

Turning Debugging into a Life-Long Mission

Those definitions are from dictionaries, not technical books. Even they specifically use the word **process** which is lacking in this situation. 

I doubt these folks would understand the nuance and history between these two tools.

This doesn’t make it a debugger. Sonar cloud does improve over time. Not seamlessly since it isn’t based on AI, but since we can define rules there’s actually a process to stop bugs from occurring over again. It specifically found security vulnerabilities and similarly hard to track bugs in my case so if we broaden the definition of “what’s a debugger”. I don’t understand why that isn’t?

Static analysis is a great field with proven needs and track records. It has amazing and important tools in it. What’s wrong about having a mission to reduce the need for debugging via static analysis?

That’s a noble mission.

No. Linting isn’t about style, that’s code formatting tools. Tools like sonar cloud find bugs and are classified as linters. Linters always found bugs and keep improving. They are great and important things.

Debugging implies an action and a process since it’s an activity. This isn’t a slam on the tool, it seems nice. But it’s not debugging, nor is it monitoring as I see in the tags.

This doesn’t seem so much like debugging as it does like linting. It’s an important thing, no doubt. But linting != debugging.

Why Java Is Still Popular

Most languages haven’t been popular for that duration continuously. E.g. Python and JavaScript have both become popular only recently. OTOH languages like Ruby, Swift, etc. have suffered a decline after a short period of “hotness”.

Java is consistently popular and has been for decades.

Open Source Bait and Switch

Crowdfunding is problematic. If you don’t have enough base traction you might end up partially funded and then the project will be perceived in a negative light. You also need to offer a commercial option for success in crowd funding and that’s often difficult. It’s an option if you have a business model, but that’s down the road.
